Welcome!
I think it’s important to get a sense of who the therapist is as you explore options for healing…
I’m Kristin Rappold, sometimes known as Kris. I’m a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) and Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS). What this means in regular speak is that I have extensive background in working with folks struggling with a variety of unhelpful behaviors - including substances, alcohol, struggles with food, relationships etc. I also am able to provide supervision to folks working on various credentials with the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board (NCSAPPB). I have worked in a variety of roles behavioral health since 2003 and graduated with a Masters of Social Work (MSW) from Western Carolina University in 2016. I am also credentialed to provide telehealth services in South Carolina through Labor Licensing Regulation.
The important piece though beyond the professional bona fides is that as a human being and as a clinician, I see all addictive patterns as serving a function of some sort. I see it as my calling to help people uncover and address that deep hurt that has led them to turn away from their emotional experiences. I feel passionate about exploring how painful or traumatic experiences have shaped the way we move through the world, and offering gentle ways to shift into a life that is more oriented towards what matters most to the person I’m supporting.
As the daughter of two engineers, I find neuroscience reassuring. It helps me understand why we humans do what we do. I am always happy to share information about the brain, and frequently integrate relational neuroscience in my practice. I am trained in Brainspotting which is a neurobiologically based way of regulating and processing. I’m very comfortable navigating spiritual territory with folks, integrating a spiritual lens when desired, using background in theological, philosophical studies as well as existential exploration.
As just a human, not a clinician, I’m the mom to two amazing and energetic 5 year olds. I relish fandoms such as Doctor Who, Star Wars, Disney and The Office. I married a sweet Dead Head who helped me see the power of that community and have become a bit of one myself (hence the name of my practice). Like the bumpersticker that I had on a car “kids grow better outdoors”, as it turns out, I do too. Our family spends a great deal of time outdoors gardening, hiking and just being.
